Moving-out checklist
Is your tenant moving out? This checklist helps you wrap up the move neatly, from the final inspection to the deposit.
Move-out checklist
- Confirm the end date: Make sure the end date is recorded in writing and clear to both parties.
- Plan the final inspection: Schedule a moment for a joint inspection of the room, preferably on the last day or the day before.
- Collect the keys: Check that you get all the keys back.
- Deregistration with the municipality: Remind your tenant to deregister with the municipality. This is legally required within 5 days of leaving.
- Note the meter readings: Does the tenant pay separately for energy? Then note the meter readings together.
- Settle the deposit: Was the deposit paid via Hospi Housing? Then we handle the return automatically, so you don't have to do anything. If not, return the deposit within 2 weeks, minus any substantiated deductions.
Carrying out the final inspection
During the final inspection you walk through the room together with your tenant and assess its condition. Do this carefully. It prevents disputes later on.
- Compare: Get out the inspection report or the photos from the start.
- Check everything: Inspect walls, floors, furniture, windows and appliances.
- Document: Take photos of any damage.
- Assess together: Discuss whether the damage falls under normal use or not.
- Record it: Put the findings in writing and have both parties sign.
Can't reach agreement together about the deposit or damage? Hospi Housing can mediate.
And the review?
You can't leave a review on your tenant's profile. Only your tenant can post a review. After a good stay you can of course ask your tenant to leave one.
