Ending the rental contract
Whether the rental period ends on your tenant's initiative or your own, a tidy ending leaves both sides with a good feeling. Here's how, as a host, you end a rental contract.
Notice periods for the host
During the nine-month trial period you can end the hospita contract without a reason, with three months' notice. After that, regular tenant protection applies and you can only give notice on a legally valid ground, such as urgent personal use. If your tenant gives notice, they usually have a one-month notice period.
How to record the notice
Always give notice in writing. Email or the chat is perfectly fine; just make sure receipt is confirmed, so there's no misunderstanding for either party about the end date.
On the platform: end date and deposit
You handle the practical side on the platform. Under Tenants you adjust the end date of the rental. You then indicate whether you return the deposit in full or withhold part of it, and if so, for what reason (for example damage or outstanding costs). That keeps everything transparently recorded.
A tidy ending
- Schedule a final inspection in good time and compare it with the start report.
- Settle the deposit properly and on time.
- Remind your tenant to deregister at the municipality.
- Feel free to ask your tenant to leave a review.
