Am I suitable as a host?
Wondering whether you're suitable as a host? Chances are the answer is yes. Our hosts are as diverse as society itself.
Good to know: starting as a host is different from starting as a landlord. A host lives in the home themselves and shares it with a tenant. Would you rather rent out a space where you don't live yourself? That's possible at Hospi Housing too, see our articles for landlords.
When can you start renting out?
These aren't separate Hospi Housing requirements, but the general conditions for starting (hospita) rental:
- You have spare living space in the home where you live yourself.
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You live in the Netherlands.
- You speak Dutch and/or English.
- You're open to sharing your home with someone else.

You don't need to be perfect
We're not looking for perfect homes or perfect people. We're looking for people who genuinely want to offer space to someone else. You might be...
- retired with an empty children's room;
- living alone and would enjoy some company;
- a family with a spare room wanting to help with the housing shortage;
- or a homeowner who'd like to earn a little extra.
If you have spare living space and want to offer someone a home, you're suitable.
When is it not (yet) possible?
Sometimes hospita rental isn't possible right away:
- You don't live in the home yourself: then you're not a host but a landlord. See our landlord page.
- You don't have permission yet: if you rent yourself or have a mortgage, you may need permission from your landlord or lender.
- The space doesn't meet the basics yet: think of sufficient size, daylight and ventilation.
