Homesharing goals
Home-sharing (sharing your home with someone else) is more than a solution to the housing crisis. It's a movement that contributes to a social, sustainable society.
Tackling the housing crisis
The Netherlands faces an enormous shortage of affordable living space. At the same time, an estimated hundreds of thousands of rooms sit empty, in the homes of singles, seniors and families whose children have moved out. Home-sharing puts exactly that existing space to use.
Goals we achieve together
- Quick extra housing: no waiting for new construction, the rooms are already there. Through home-sharing, we realise additional housing fast
- Affordable rooms: home-sharing offers rooms at fair prices, often lower than the commercial market
- Social cohesion: hosts and tenants learn from each other. Generations, cultures, and backgrounds come together under one roof
- Combating loneliness: many hosts, especially seniors, value the companionship, so home-sharing helps reduce loneliness
- Sustainability: using existing living space is more sustainable than new construction. No extra materials, no extra land needed
Impact in numbers
- 5,000+ active hosts sharing a room
- 30,000+ active room seekers
- 100+ partnerships with municipalities and organisations
The future of housing
Home-sharing isn't a new idea. In the 1970s and '80s, it was the most natural thing in the world. Hospi Housing brings the concept back, adapted to modern times, with technology, verification, and guidance. Together with municipalities and organisations, we're building a future where no one has to be on the street while rooms sit empty.
