What is Hospi Housing?

Hospi Housing is the platform for room and live-in (hospita) rental. We connect people looking for housing with people who have a room to spare: ordinary people opening their doors to someone else. No anonymous listings, just hosts and host families who genuinely want to make a difference for someone looking for a home.

It started with hospita rental

Hospi Housing grew out of hospita rental (hospitaverhuur): a proven form of living where you rent a room from someone who lives in the same house. The concept has existed since the '70s and '80s, when it was perfectly normal to rent a room from a live-in landlord (a 'hospita'). We're bringing it back in a modern, safe form, with personal guidance.

Hospita rental is, and always will be, our heart; it's the reason we started. Across the Netherlands over 1 million rooms stand empty, while tens of thousands of people are searching for an affordable home. By putting that space to use, we solve a piece of the housing crisis together, without a single brick being laid.

Much more than that today

What began with hosts renting out a room in their own home has grown into a broad platform for housing. Alongside hosts, landlords and housing corporations now list their supply on Hospi Housing too. If you have a single room to spare, or manage several properties, you'll find the right resident with us.

What makes Hospi Housing different?

We believe the housing crisis won't be solved by new construction alone. The space is often already there. It just needs to be used in a safe, fair way. That's what we're built for:

Who is Hospi Housing built for?

For everyone who believes that housing is more than four walls. Looking for a place as a student, starter or newcomer to the Netherlands? Or do you have space to spare and want to make a difference for someone else? Then Hospi Housing is for you. Together, we make the housing market a little more human.
