Tips voor de beste studenten spots in Rotterdam

Hi everyone, my name is Pavla and I'm a Marketing Intern at Hospi Housing. If you have not yet heard, Hospi Housing has recently announced expanding to Rotterdam. With this exciting announcement, I would like to share my favorite hotspots in the city with you to scope out what one of the most modern Dutch cities has to offer. Enjoy!

Places to study

1. BACKYARD

Backyard is a plant-based cafe with great coffee, drinks, and food located in the heart of Rotterdam. Not only can you study there, but also enjoy a nice brunch in the laptop-free zone :)

2. JORDY's bakery

JORDY's bakery is well-known for their bread. In three locations around the city, you can get freshly-made bread, pastries and coffee of your choice along with your laptop!

Museums

1. Depot Boijmans van Beuningen

While the actual Boijmans Van Beuningen museum is under renovation, you can walk through the depot of the museum and observe how one of most of the historic art pieces are stored and preserved. Tip: tickets are available online but you can also opt for a free guided tour straight at the location.

2. Kunstinstitut Melly

Kunstinstitut Melly organizes exhibitions and commission art created by today's visual artists and cultural makers, as well as publishing and developing educational and collaborative initiatives. Student tickets are only 3 euros, and on Friday's admission is free.

3. Kunsthal museum

While being one of the leading cultural institutions in the Netherlands, the Kunsthal offers over 20 exhibitions a year. Student tickets go for 8.25 euros per person.

A good night out

1. ESN Tuesdays

ESN Rotterdam is an international student organization linked to the Erasmus University. Every Tuesday, they organize a student night at Cafe De Beurs on top of their countless other events. Take a look at their website to stay informed.

2. Annabell

Are you a big fan of pop and rap music? Annabel is the largest pop venue in Rotterdam. During summer, there is also a beautiful outside terrace where you can enjoy a pint of beer or a glass of wine.

3. Ferry

Ferry is the biggest queer club in Rotterdam. Ranging from a club on a Saturday night, to a restaurant, to beautiful drag shows every Monday. Tip: admission for all events is free!

4. Perron

If you're more into techno/electronic music and scene, you should definitely attend an event at Cultuurpodium Perron venue in one of the upcoming weekends.

5. Wunderbar

Located on the legendary Witte de Withstraat, Wunderbar offers a selection of great vegan beers and plant-based food. A perfect place to have a drink with your group of friends before going out on a Friday night!

Restaurants

1. Markthal

Markthal offers ingredients and food from all over the world. If you love food, you will definitely find something to your taste. Not only do you have access to all different kinds of food, but it is also the first covered market and biggest piece of art in the Netherlands.

2. SOJU Bar: Korean fried chicken & beer

Are you a fan of fried chicken? Then SOJU Bar is the place for you. Same as Wunderbar, it is located on Witte de Withstraat and is worth a visit. In case you get hungry on your walk around the city, it is always a good idea to stop for some Korean fried chicken.

Parks

1. Kralingse Bos and Plas

Kralingse Bos is your ideal destination on a warm sunny day. In summer, you can always come here for a nice picnic or barbecue with family and friends, as well as enjoy the most beautiful nature sites of the city.
