Housing association Anna Paulowna launches homesharing pilot

Housing association Anna Paulowna and Hospi Housing are launching a homesharing pilot, allowing tenants to rent out a room and help create additional housing within existing homes.

A promising step forward in Hollands Kroon: housing association Anna Paulowna is launching a homesharing pilot together with Hospi Housing. With this pilot, tenants will be able to temporarily rent out a room in their home, with permission from the housing association. Small in scale, but with real potential.

Starting small, making impact

The pilot will begin with five tenants. Importantly, no municipal permit is required within this pilot, making it easier to get started. The goal is to learn: what works well, what challenges arise, and how homesharing can be scaled responsibly.

Creating housing, without building

Homesharing is a simple but powerful concept: using the space that already exists.

For house seekers, it creates accessible and affordable housing. For tenants, it can bring financial benefits, companionship and a better use of their home.

In a tight housing market, solutions like this matter.

Guidance every step of the way

Renting out a room in your own home can feel like a big step. That’s why Hospi Housing provides full guidance throughout the process.

From assessing personal situations to matching with the right tenant and setting clear agreements — everything is supported. Guidance continues during the rental period as well.

As founder Daan Donkers explains: “Renting out a room in your own home is a big step. That’s why proper guidance is essential.”

Learning together

This pilot is not just about creating housing, but also about learning what is needed to make homesharing more widely accessible.

The municipality of Hollands Kroon is closely involved and sees home sharing as a way to create additional housing without new construction. By starting small, there is room to test, improve and expand.

A step toward smarter housing

This pilot shows what’s possible when housing associations, municipalities and platforms work together.

No long delays — just practical action using existing homes. And that’s exactly where change happens.
