Not all hosts are the same, not all students are the same and definitely not all of our matches are the same. This story might be a bit different from what you are used to. Student Richard has been living in the house of Fons and Sytse for over 6 months now. Due to the pandemic Richard had to stop with his studies abroad and return to Utrecht. Richard had already been living in Utrecht for over five years and this time he was looking for a more private student housing. "For my current phase I am not looking for typical student housing, but I want to have my own comfortable space."

Student housing in the heart of Utrecht

Fons and Sytse are the owners of a beautiful 15th century house in one of the oldest and most characteristic streets of Utrecht. Running a bed & breakfast before they are both used to hosting their guests and having people around the house. "Now that we are retired, we thought about an alternative. We still have two studios available in the house, which would be perfect for students." The studios have their own bathroom and kitchen and enough space for a bed and a small living area

After meeting with his hosts-to-be a couple of times, Richard realized he would like to live there. "The location and the dogs, I really liked it there." Because he has his own facilities, there is of course less interaction between them, which means also less space for noticing any lifestyle differences. However, they do like each other's company and help each other out. "He is really caring about our stuff, it's nice to have someone else in your house to just take care when you're away," says Fons. They also admit that they are very happy when Richard has people over, since it brings a pleasant vibe to the house and leads to welcome interaction.

Another unique match

So there's Richard, looking for more personal space after his unexpected return to Utrecht. And there's Fons and Sytse, retired but still with the desire to help people out and provide them with a good experience. They are all very happy about the decision they made.
