Dutch Government Starts Information Campaign Homestay Rental
The Dutch Ministry of Housing has started an information campaign to stimulate Homestay Rental. Besides potential hosts, the campaign is targeted on municipalities, housing corporations and banks, to ease regulations and promote the concept.
Big News! The Dutch Ministry of Housing has launched a campaign to promote host rentals. In recent years, the national government has made host rentals a key priority in tackling the housing shortage. Part of this approach is a new national campaign to raise awareness about the benefits of host rentals among citizens and relevant organizations. Hospi Housing has been actively involved in the creation of this campaign and will continue to be closely involved in its rollout.
Over 100,000 Available Rooms
The potential for host rentals is substantial, and interest is growing rapidly. Nearly 944,000 people in the Netherlands live alone in homes larger than 90 square meters with three or more rooms. Various studies show that 2% to 8% of Dutch people are open to renting out a room in their home. This translates to about 100,000 available and suitable rooms, enough to immediately resolve the room shortage.

Campaign aimed at Municipalities, Housing Corporations, and Mortgage Providers
In addition to potential hosts and tenants, the campaign targets housing corporations, private landlords, municipalities, and mortgage providers. Many professionals still have questions about what is and isn’t permitted. The goal of the campaign is to clearly demonstrate the benefits of host rentals and make information about it easily accessible.

Toolkit with free-to-use communication materials
As part of the national government campaign, a toolkit with communication materials is available to help raise awareness of the opportunities offered by host rentals. The toolkit includes printable flyers and posters, photos and videos for social media, and information brochures. The toolkit can be downloaded here.

Less regulations, easier policies, better information
Easing regulations, simplifying policies, and improving information access: there is still much work to be done. This campaign and the additional measures announced are an important step in the right direction. At Hospi Housing, we’re especially proud to have contributed to the creation of this campaign💪.
