Municipality of Den Bosch and housing corporations launch homesharing pilot with Hospi Housing
The municipality of ’s-Hertogenbosch, local housing corporations and Hospi Housing are launching a homesharing pilot to create more affordable housing by making better use of existing homes.
’s-Hertogenbosch, May 18, 2026 – The municipality of ’s-Hertogenbosch, together with housing corporations Mooiland, JOOST, BrabantWonen and Zayaz, is launching a homesharing pilot. The initiative encourages tenants and homeowners to rent out a spare room in their homes, helping to create more affordable housing opportunities while making better use of existing living space. Hospi Housing supports the pilot through matching, guidance and operational support.
Making better use of existing housing
Many homes have unused rooms, while at the same time many people are looking for affordable housing. Homesharing brings these two groups together in a social and accessible way, without the need for new construction.
The pilot specifically targets tenants of participating housing corporations, but homeowners can also benefit from renting out a room. In addition to extra financial flexibility, homesharing can provide more social connection and enjoyment at home. Since room rentals are often temporary, the concept fits well with different stages of life, such as when children move out or when someone starts living alone.
Pieter Paul Slikker said: “Many people in ’s-Hertogenbosch are looking for affordable housing, especially young people and first-time renters. By making better use of existing homes, we can help address the housing shortage in the short term.”
Personal guidance and support
Hospi Housing supports hosts throughout the entire process, including screening, matching, contracts and practical support during the rental period. The organization also helps answer questions about regulations, pricing and creating clear agreements between host and tenant.
Daan Donkers said: “Renting out a room in your home is an important step. That’s why personal guidance is essential. We help hosts from the very first conversation to finding the right match, making homesharing safe, accessible and straightforward.”
Two-year pilot
The collaboration in ’s-Hertogenbosch will run as a two-year pilot. During this period, the municipality, housing corporations and Hospi Housing will work together on clear communication, practical agreements and a sustainable approach to homesharing.
