November News Update: Everyone on Board and Moving Forward Together

In November, Hospi Housing reached a milestone with a complete founding team, hosted new events, saw local policy changes and launched platform improvements.

November was a month of growth, connection and looking ahead at Hospi Housing. With major news within our team, inspiring events on the horizon and continued progress in housing policy, this update highlights the key developments.

Everyone on board: an huge milestone

Six years after launching Hospi Housing, the founding team is now complete! From the new year onwards, Maurits will also be working full-time. Until now, he supported Hospi Housing alongside other commitments, but with all three founders fully on board, we can further strengthen and scale our social mission.

Reaching this point feels special. Together with hosts, tenants, municipalities and partners, we have already achieved more than we initially imagined. At the same time, our ambitions remain high. Maurits joining full-time marks an important step in continuing to grow Hospi Housing and expanding the impact of homestay renting.

Connecting people: events in Utrecht and Nieuwegein

Early December brings two key moments. On 1 December, we are organising the Hospita Hotspot event in Utrecht together with the municipality, Kamers met Aandacht and Onder de Pannen. This informal gathering brings together experienced hosts, people interested in hosting and room seekers to exchange experiences and talk about homestay renting — with food, drinks and conversations with alderman Dennis de Vries.

On 8 December, Hospi Housing will be present at the Day of Public Housing in Nieuwegein. Joost will share his perspective as one of four speakers highlighting different views on the housing shortage. Together with our partners from Geef Tijdelijk Thuis, we will host a stand at the “Beter Benutten” area and engage in discussions about the future of housing.

Regulations evolving at local level

Policy developments continued at a local level. Amsterdam eased rules for hosts receiving social benefits, while Purmerend now allows residents to rent out up to two rooms without a permit. These changes show that municipalities increasingly recognise the value of making better use of existing housing stock.

Platform improvements and inspiring stories

We also introduced a practical platform update: hosts can now offer and sign rental contracts directly through Hospi Housing, making it even easier to confirm a match.

Finally, real-life stories continue to inspire. Like Ineke, who rents out a room in her historic home near Wilhelminapark in Utrecht. Following in her parents’ footsteps, she hosts not only to provide housing, but also for the connection and cultural exchange. Her match with Beatrise from Latvia perfectly captures the essence of homestay renting: sharing space, experiences and everyday life.
