Start of phase 2 Homestay Rental Campaign Arnhem

After a successful first phase, with over 900 applications from room searchers and 35 hosts, in July 2025 phase 2 of the homestay rental campaign in Arnhem will start.

Arnhem, June 24, 2025 – In July, the second phase of the campaign to promote homestay rental in Arnhem will officially begin. The campaign is a joint initiative by the Municipality of Arnhem, HAN University of Applied Sciences, ArtEZ University of the Arts, Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences, and Hospi Housing. Its goal is to connect more students with local residents who have a spare room available. After a promising first year, the campaign continues to grow, reaching and supporting even more potential hosts and students.

Strong Foundation in Phase One

Since its launch in 2024, the campaign has achieved solid results. Over 900 students have registered in search of a room - approximately 80% international - and 35 local hosts have signed up to offer housing. In total, 15 successful matches have been made, giving students a place to stay while boosting social and financial benefits for the residents of Arnhem.

Homestay Rental: More Than Just a Spare Room

The Municipality of Arnhem sees hospita rental as a low-threshold, effective way to address the housing shortage without the need for immediate new construction.

No Permit Required in Arnhem

In Arnhem, it is allowed to rent out one or two rooms to one or two people without a permit, whether you are a homeowner or a tenant. However, it is important to check with your housing corporation, landlord, or mortgage provider if they allow room rental in your specific case.

Residents in surrounding municipalities are encouraged to contact their local government to check if a permit is required for in-home rental.
