Venlo starts campaign to promote Homestay Rental as solution to housing crisis

In July 2024 Venlo starts a campaign to promote Homestay Rental. By doing so they hope to creating more housing options for students and provide a solution to the room shortage in Venlo.

Starting in July 2024, the municipality of Venlo, in collaboration with Hospi Housing, will launch a campaign to promote Homestay Rental. Homestay Rental is a type of rental where the host rents out a room or part of the room where they live themselves.

By facilitating and encouraging homestay rental, the municipality of Venlo aims to create additional housing options for room seekers. This form of rental offers benefits for both tenants and hosts, such as financial security, enhanced social interaction, and positive effects on the well-being of both parties. Therefore, the municipality of Venlo urges residents to temporarily rent out a room in their homes.

Campaign in Venlo

In July 2024, a two-year campaign will start to inform and excite potential hosts and host families. The Dutch government has prioritized homestay rental as part of its strategy to address housing shortages. Increasingly, housing corporations are allowing this type of rental, and income from homestay rental up to €5998 per year is tax-free.

The campaign will focus on reaching room seekers and residents of Venlo. Homestay rental offers numerous advantages, such as extra income for landlords. Given the current housing shortage, increasing loneliness, and rising costs, homestay rental in Venlo is a logical solution.

Erwin Boom, Alderman for Student Housing, states: "To remain a city for students, it is essential to offer more student rooms for rent. Therefore, collaboration with Hospi Housing is crucial. This type of room rental is especially suitable for students. Homeowners can rent out a room to a student whenever they want. It is important to actively highlight this opportunity and raise awareness. Hospi Housing connects and relieves both the owner and the student, enabling quick and easy rental."

No Permit Needed for Homestay Rental in Venlo
