Oldenzaal and Hospi Housing join forces to promote homesharing

The Municipality of Oldenzaal and Hospi Housing have started a two-year partnership to make homesharing more widely known and accessible in Oldenzaal. Together, we want to help residents make unused space in their homes available to people looking for housing in a safe and straightforward way.

Finding suitable and affordable accommodation can be difficult for young people, starters, professionals and interns in Oldenzaal. At the same time, there are homes with one or more rooms that are hardly being used, for example because children have moved out or because someone lives alone in a larger home.

Homesharing can help bring these two situations together. A host rents out a room in the home they live in themselves. The tenant has their own private room while facilities such as the kitchen and bathroom are shared.

Making better use of the homes we already have

Through this partnership, the Municipality of Oldenzaal and Hospi Housing want to do more than simply raise awareness of homesharing. We also want to help residents who are considering opening up their home take the next step.

A room that is currently unused can make a significant difference to someone looking for a place to live. The Municipality of Oldenzaal has chosen to work with Hospi Housing because of our experience supporting people who are considering becoming a host.

Personal support throughout the process

Renting out a room in your own home is not something everyone decides overnight. Who would be a good fit in my home? What are the rules? How do we make clear agreements? And how do you make sure the arrangement works well for both host and tenant?

Hospi Housing supports residents throughout the process. This includes information and personal advice, finding a suitable tenant, arranging an introduction, preparing the rental agreement and offering support during the rental period.

Over the next two years, the Municipality of Oldenzaal and Hospi Housing will also work together to provide information and increase awareness of homesharing in the area.
