Housing corporation Portaal joins gemeente Leiden campaign to promote homestay rental

Hospi Housing launches a new campaign in Leiden, extending its partnership with the municipality and starting a collaboration with housing corporation Portaal.

Gemeente Leiden, Kamers met Aandacht, Hospi Housing and housing corporation Portaal are launching a new campaign in Leiden to further promote homestay rental. The partnership with the Municipality of Leiden has been extended, and a new collaboration with housing corporation Portaal has recently started.

Continued partnership with the Municipality of Leiden

Hospi Housing and the Municipality of Leiden have been working together for several years to stimulate homestay rental in the city. In 2022, Leiden was the second city (after Utrecht) to start a campaign to promote homestay rental as a social and affordable solution to the room shortage. This collaboration has now been extended.

Leiden recognizes homestay rental as a low-threshold way to add housing within the existing housing stock. By renting out a room, additional housing capacity is created without new construction. The municipality provides clear information about the rules and conditions on its website.

In recent years, the collaboration has increased awareness and resulted in concrete matches between hosts and room seekers. The new campaign continues this effort with a focus on visibility, information and support.

New partnership with Portaal

In addition to the extension in Leiden, Hospi Housing has recently started a partnership with Portaal. This collaboration is organized across the corporation, with specific focus on Leiden, Nijmegen and Utrecht.

Portaal actively informs its tenants about the possibilities of homestay rental. Many tenants have a spare room, but are not always aware of the rules or opportunities. The collaboration provides clarity about the conditions and supports tenants in arranging everything properly.
