Press release - July 18, 2023

The new musical comedy 'De Hospita,' in collaboration with Hospi Housing, is giving away a student room for the upcoming academic year. Through this giveaway, producer MediaLane Theater aims to draw attention to the housing crisis in the Netherlands and the solution of homestay (living with a landlady, landlord or guest family). The musical, featuring Simone Kleinsma in the role of revue star and landlady Madeleine Coutard, will also address this topic in Dutch theaters starting from November.

A free student room for one year

With the new academic year approaching, thousands of students are in search of a suitable room. However, due to the massive housing shortage, this is a challenging task for many. A room in the home of a landlady or host family offers a practical and social solution to this problem. Not only does it make better use of existing housing, but it also helps combat loneliness among both the elderly and young people.

To create awareness for this issue, the new musical ‘De Hospita,’ in collaboration with Hospi Housing, will give away a room for one year at a landlady's home. Students from all over the Netherlands can apply here between July 10 and 24 to have a chance of winning this free room.

Simone Kleinsma: “From November onwards, I will embody the character of landlady Madeleine Coutard. Despite the show being full of humor, the issue of housing shortage is very serious. It's great that we can make a small contribution this year! I wish the lucky student and landlady much joy and happiness, and I can't wait to come for a cup of coffee or meet them in the theater.”

Musical De Hospita

Starting from November, the brand-new musical 'De Hospita' will be showcased in theaters across the country. This production, specially created for Simone Kleinsma's anniversary year, tells the story of a revue star and comedian from the past. Madeleine Coutard must navigate the bewildering world of today when three young students move in with her due to financial difficulties. Experience the revue of the past - in a visually stunning contemporary setting - once again in Dutch theaters, with a story featuring razor-sharp humor and unexpected emotion.

Help a student with temporary housing

To help someone by temporarily offering a room in your home is known as Homestay (‘hospitaverhuur’ in Dutch). Hospi Housing connects students in search of rooms with landladies and host families throughout the Netherlands. Our goal is to provide a sustainable and social solution to the housing shortage. We collaborate with municipalities, educational institutions, and housing corporations to achieve this objective. As a rapidly growing social enterprise, we have already been able to help over 400 room-seekers find accommodation in someone's home.
