Room in Leens

You will be living on the first floor in an atmospheric, spacious room with plenty of light from large skylights that can all be opened, offering views of the surrounding area in the distance and, nearby, of a medieval church with bells that strike the half and full hours. The cottage stands on a Wierde, an elevation in the landscape where people have lived since 400 AD. The room contains a cozy armchair, a dining chair, a desk chair, and a bamboo hanging chair. There is also a study/dining table, two chests of drawers, and side tables. You will sleep well on the large double bed with high-quality mattresses and bedding. A giant Monstera plant and the Kilim rug make the room feel homey. Separated by a door next to your room is the spacious walk-in/landing area where your own toilet with washbasin is situated. This area was decorated by the grandchildren back in the day with a flower meadow and flying paper fish hanging from the gaff of our old sailboat. On the other side, a simple kitchenette has been created with coffee and tea facilities, a small fridge, stoneware, etc., and a two-burner induction hob with accessories that can be used for a simple meal. For more elaborate meals, you can use the downstairs kitchen, including the oven, by appointment. It is quiet here, and the surroundings are rural with a farm here and there, a hamlet with a small church, a gallery, a studio, meadows and fields with various crops, and a fishing village. The Wadden Sea—a World Heritage Site—and the Lauwersmeer are within cycling distance. Just around the corner is the bus stop to Groningen, the UMCG, and Campus Zernike in about 50 minutes. The bus to Lauwersoog also stops nearby, where the boat departs for the car-free island of Schiermonnikoog. The village has two supermarkets, a bakery, a shop-in-shop store, and a pharmacy. The pride is the Borg from 1850 with its sculpture garden and the Oosterhouw estate.
